I am a freelance writer living in Holt, north Norfolk.
My greatest interests have always been birds, wildlife and landscapes. I spend most of my time on Blakeney Point and in the Glaven Valley but have also travelled extensively in the UK as well as in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Asia and North America. I run North Norfolk Birds, offering customised guided birdwatching walks in north Norfolk (see www.northnorfolkbirds.co.uk for details) and am also the occasional voice of Birdline East Anglia.
I am passionate about books, not just scientific texts on birds and natural history but also nature writing - lyrical writing about places and wildlife - and environmental history - the study of our relationship, both physical and mental, with the natural world. See "Writing" for more information about these genres and for some recommended reading.
I have written two books to date. "The Birds of Blakeney Point", published in 2005, documents the Point's long history of birds and their watchers. "Prairie Dreams", published in 2011, is an environmental history of North America's Great Plains. My latest book project, entitled "Shifting Sands", is a piece of nature writing focused once more on Blakeney Point.
I am also Editor of the Norfolk Bird Report and have contributed many articles and book reviews to the birdwatching press. See "Bird Report", "Articles" and "Reviews" for details.
